A Lexington man will spend more than a decade in prison as a result of an undercover online operation where he admitted to trying to have sex with minors.
District Judge Joseph M. Hood sentenced Timothy Poynter to more than 12 years in federal prison after he pleaded guilty in May to child sex crimes. A plea agreement states Poynter admitted to placing a Craigslist ad and receiving messages from undercover officers posing as parents of children.
The officers pretended to be the mother of an year-old and a father of a year-old stepdaughter. He must serve 85 percent of his sentence and remain on federal probation for the rest of his life. Newscasts.
